Helena Zubanovich completed her vocal studies at the Music Academy in Katowice and at the University of Music and Theatre Hamburg, both with distinction. She won, among others, the 1st Prize at the Antonín Dvořák Competition in Karlovy Vary, the International Robert Stolz Operetta Competition in Hamburg, the 1st Prize at Teatro Massimo Palermo, as well as the Special Prize for Young Talents at the Mirjam Helin Competition in Helsinki.

She made her operatic debut as Mimì in La Bohème at the Bytom City Theatre. Since then, engagements have taken her to many renowned opera houses, including the Volksoper Vienna, Teatro Massimo Palermo, Opéra de Monaco, Deutsche Oper am Rhein Düsseldorf, Aalto Theatre Essen, Den Norske Opera Oslo, State Theatre Kassel, Theatres of Erfurt and Ulm, the National Theatres of Prague and Brno, the National Opera of Beijing, and the National Opera of Riga. She also performs regularly at the Teatr Wielki in Poznań and has appeared in concert at the Großes Festspielhaus in Salzburg.

Her major roles include Azucena (Il Trovatore), Amneris (Aida), Eboli (Don Carlo), Ulrica (Un ballo in maschera), Santuzza (Cavalleria rusticana), Carmen (title role), Herodias (Salome), Baba the Turk (The Rake’s Progress), Klytämnestra (Elektra), and the Kostelnička (Jenůfa). She has performed the latter role, among others, at the Bavarian State Opera in Munich and at the National Opera in Riga.

A particularly strong and ongoing connection exists with the role of Ježibaba in Rusalka, which she has performed at the Bavarian State Opera Munich, the Volksoper Vienna, the Semperoper Dresden, and the National Theatre Brno.

In concert, she has appeared as soloist in Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 and works by Gustav Mahler at the Großes Festspielhaus Salzburg, and has sung Rossini’s Stabat Mater with the Basel Symphony Orchestra. She also appeared as Maddalena in Rigoletto and in Mahler’s Symphony No. 3 under the baton of Stefan Anton Reck at Opera Berlioz Montpellier. At the Beethoven Festival in Warsaw, she recorded the role of Ines in Donizetti’s Maria Padilla for CD. She has also performed Verdi’s Requiem at the Tonhalle Zürich.

At the Bavarian State Opera Munich, her roles have included the Mother (Hänsel und Gretel), the Vision (The Fiery Angel), the Hostess (Boris Godunov), Sigrune (Die Walküre), the Countess (Andrea Chénier), Ninetta (I Vespri Siciliani), Ludmilla (The Bartered Bride), Larina (Eugene Onegin), as well as repeated appearances as the Kostelnička (Jenůfa) and Ježibaba (Rusalka).

She has performed and recorded internationally with distinguished conductors such as Kirill Petrenko, Simone Young, Andris Nelsons, Bertrand de Billy, Marco Armiliato, Michael Jurowski, Antoni Wit, Krzysztof Penderecki, Joana Mallwitz, Stefan Soltesz, Tomáš Hanus, Pablo Haffter, Asher Fisch, Marc Piollet, Markus Poschner, Gabriele Ferro, Alfred Eschwé, Łukasz Borowicz, Mirco Letoja, Pietro Rizzo, John Fiore, among others.

She has also collaborated with renowned stage directors such as Willy Decker, Giancarlo del Monaco, Martin Kušej, and Denis Krief.

Her artistry is documented on CD recordings of Maria Padilla and Otello, and on a DVD production of Andrea Chénier from the Bavarian State Opera Munich.

Helena Zubanovich absolvierte ihre Gesangsausbildung an der Musikakademie Kattowitz sowie an der Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hamburg, jeweils mit Auszeichnung. Sie gewann u. a. den 1. Preis beim Antonin-Dvořák-Wettbewerb in Karlsbad, den Internationalen Robert-Stolz-Operettenwettbewerb in Hamburg, den 1. Preis am Teatro Massimo Palermo sowie den Sonderpreis für junge Talente beim Mirjam-Helin-Wettbewerb in Helsinki.

Ihr Operndebüt gab sie als Mimi in La Bohème am Stadttheater Bytom. Seither führten sie Engagements an zahlreiche bedeutende Bühnen, darunter die Volksoper Wien, das Teatro Massimo Palermo, die Opéra de Monaco, die Oper am Rhein Düsseldorf, das Aalto Theater Essen, die Den Norske Opera Oslo, das Staatstheater Kassel, das Stadttheater Erfurt, das Stadttheater Ulm, das Nationaltheater Prag, das Nationaltheater Brünn, die Nationaloper Beijing, die Nationaloper Riga sowie regelmäßig an das Teatr Wielki Posen. Konzertant war sie u. a. im Großen Festspielhaus Salzburg zu erleben.
